SMART Art
Established as a community outreach based forum, artists apply their medium in a format with intent to educate, expand and enrich a student and/or community’s perspective on a particular art form.
SMART ART Project Proposal Process:
The art category may be any art medium in any application.
The final product/ exhibit must emphasize educational outreach to the community with the intent to raise awareness of the power of the arts. 3 steps: 1. An artist proposes a concept, provides a prototype and production budget for approval. 2. Project is reviewed by SMART staff. 3. Upon budget approval SMART works to raise the money and/or establish a partnership to produce the project. The final product is either exhibited or distributed. In most cases the projects are solicited for a reasonable fee to assist in keeping SMART a sustainable organization and the future production of these projects. Details for artist compensation and donations to SMART are covered in artist application process.

6.0 > Luminaria
International artist Vaago Wieland from Germany and local filmmaker Laura Varela team up to create the Alamo site specific installation for Luminaria, San Antonio's all day and night arts fair on March 14th. In support of their efforts, the SMART/ART program has provided their project warehouse space for the fabrication of Wieland's historical installation. Accompanying Weiland's sculptural "light tents" will be Varela's video projection onto the Alamo. She will be the first Chicana to arrange an installation of this magnitude at the historical Alamo site. Their collaboration will be referencing the significance of the Alamo's history.
